Common questions

Is the ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment mock exam free?

Yes — 100% free, no sign-up needed. Questions are pulled at random from a substantial bank, with a worked explanation on every question after you submit.

Can I retake the mock exam?

Yes. Every attempt picks a different random selection and reshuffles the options, so each retake gives you genuinely new questions. No limit on retakes.

Does this count towards the real qualification?

No — this is independent practice material. To gain the actual qualification you need to sit the official assessment through an approved provider.

What is the format of the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental assessment?

The SJIB publishes it as 50 multiple-choice questions, each with four options, to be answered in 30 minutes. The questions are spread across 11 areas: general health and safety (6), manual handling (4), reporting accidents (3), PPE (4), health and hygiene (3), fire and emergency (9), work at height (5), work equipment (4), special site hazards (3), electrotechnical (6) and environmental (3). Confirm the current format and fee when you book, as the JIB and SJIB deliver it differently.

What is the pass mark for the ECS health and safety test?

You need 43 correct answers out of 50, which is 86%. That is a high bar, so this mock uses the same pass mark: if you are not reliably scoring 43 or more here, keep practising before you book.

Do I need the ECS health and safety assessment for a Gold Card?

Yes. A current pass in the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental assessment is required for every ECS card application and renewal, alongside the qualifications for the card you are applying for.

Is this the same as the CSCS test?

No. Electricians apply for ECS cards, which use the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental assessment rather than the CITB test used for CSCS cards. The general site-safety topics overlap, but the ECS paper also has an electrotechnical section, so this mock includes electrical safety questions as well.
