Sample questions
01A charge point data sheet gives a maximum current of 32 A at 230 V. What power does that actually represent?
- A8.00 kW
- B6.90 kW
- C7.00 kW
- D7.36 kW
Why: 32 A × 230 V = 7,360 W, which is 7.36 kW. That is why a 32 A unit is sold as 7 kW or 7.4 kW. 6.90 kW is 30 A × 230 V, the figure you get by working backwards from 7,000 W, which understates the current the unit really draws. For demand and circuit design, use the 32 A from the data sheet.
02Which description matches load curtailment as Regulation 722.311.201 uses the term?
- AAn allowance for loads that rarely run together
- BThe OSG diversity allowances applied to the charger
- CA larger cut-out fuse to carry the full demand
- DReducing or disconnecting load, automatic or manual
Why: 722.311.201 lets load curtailment, by reducing or disconnecting load, automatically or manually, be taken into account when maximum demand is determined. It is a real limit on the current. An allowance for loads not coinciding is diversity, which Section 722 does not give for EV charging, and a bigger fuse is a supply change, not curtailment.
03On a survey visit the cut-out fuse rating is not marked anywhere you can read it. What is the right next step?
- AAsk the DNO, with a photo, and leave the cut-out sealed
- BAssume 60 A and design the whole job to stay under that
- CRemove the cut-out fuse carrier and read the fuse
- DAssume 100 A, as most modern cut-outs are that size
Why: You must not open the cut-out unless the DNO has authorised you. If the rating is not visible, ask the DNO or send a photograph of the cut-out. A known cut-out rating is one of the connect-and-notify criteria, so guessing it, at 100 A or anything else, defeats the adequacy-of-supply check that 132.16 requires.
Common questions
Is the Design mock exam free?
Yes — 100% free, no sign-up needed. Questions are pulled at random from a substantial bank, with a worked explanation on every question after you submit.
Can I retake the mock exam?
Yes. Every attempt picks a different random selection and reshuffles the options, so each retake gives you genuinely new questions. No limit on retakes.
Does this count towards the real qualification?
No — this is independent practice material. To gain the actual qualification you need to sit the official assessment through an approved provider.
