Sample questions

  1. 01At the survey the earthing arrangement looks like a TN supply, but you cannot confirm whether it is TN-S or TN-C-S. How does the On-Site Guide advise you to treat it?
    • AAs PME, unless you have confirmed otherwise
    • BAs TN-S, if a separate earth clamp is fitted
    • CAs TN-S, until the DNO tells you otherwise
    • DAs TT, because no electrode can be seen

Why: The On-Site Guide advises treating a TN supply as PME unless you have confirmed otherwise. Assuming TN-S is the tempting shortcut, but it would let you skip the 722.411.4.1 decision for an outdoor charging point when the supply may well be PME. A visible earth clamp does not prove the arrangement.

  2. 02Where does the legal duty to work on conductors dead, and to stop them being made live while you work, come from?
    • APart 6 of BS 7671, on inspection and testing
    • BThe Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021
    • CThe Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
    • DApproved Document P, on electrical safety

Why: The duty to work dead comes from the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. BS 7671 is tempting because it is the standard you work to, but it deals with the installation having suitable means of isolation and switching; it does not write your isolation procedure. GN3 and the On-Site Guide describe safe working practice.

  3. 03You are proving dead at the terminals of a three-phase charge point circuit. Which set of tests is needed?
    • AL1 to L2 and L2 to L3, then each line to earth
    • BLine to line, line to N, line to E, and N to E
    • CEach line to earth only, then neutral to earth
    • DEach line to neutral only, as earth is bonded

Why: On three-phase you test every line to every other line, each line to neutral, each line to earth, and neutral to earth, at the conductors you will touch. Skipping a pair, such as L1 to L3, or leaving out the line-to-line tests, can miss a conductor that is still live.

Common questions

Is the Installation, testing and handover mock exam free?

Yes — 100% free, no sign-up needed. Questions are pulled at random from a substantial bank, with a worked explanation on every question after you submit.

Can I retake the mock exam?

Yes. Every attempt picks a different random selection and reshuffles the options, so each retake gives you genuinely new questions. No limit on retakes.

Does this count towards the real qualification?

No — this is independent practice material. To gain the actual qualification you need to sit the official assessment through an approved provider.
