Key Takeaways

  • 1The headline board cost is only one part of the job. Labour, testing, tails, bonding work, and remedials often move the price more than the enclosure.
  • 2Older properties often need more than a simple swap, which is why site survey detail matters.
  • 3A clear quote separates the base board change from additional remedials and optional upgrades.
  • 4Pricing gets easier when labour, materials, testing, and certification are all visible in one workflow.
  • 5Elec-Mate helps turn the survey into a quote, certificate, and handover without rebuilding the job twice.

What actually drives the cost

Most clients think the board itself sets the whole price. In reality, the cost usually moves because of the installation around it: number of circuits, condition of existing conductors, need for SPDs or RCBOs, tail upgrades, bonding defects, and the amount of testing needed before the board can be safely re-energised.

02 · Pricing Guide

Split the base scope from the extras

  • Base board replacement or upgrade scope.
  • Protective device choice, including RCBO and SPD setup.
  • Main tails, meter tails, switches, glands, and sundries.
  • Bonding upgrades, circuit remedials, and any discovered defects.
  • Testing, certification, and notification where relevant.

Why the survey matters before the quote

A fast survey saves arguments later. If the existing board is badly labelled, the tails are poor, or the main bonding is missing, that needs to be picked up early and reflected in the quote. Otherwise a tidy-looking price turns into a stressful on-site renegotiation.

Make the quote easy to say yes to

Clients respond better when the quote is clear about what is included, what is optional, and what could be subject to condition on strip-out. That is better for trust and better for margin than hiding the detail inside one headline figure.

One App for Everything!

Elec-Mate is my go to app for business and electrical work. It's feature rich without feeling cluttered. A true all in one app for quotes, certs, calculations, RAMS, EICRs, and more. I use it every day without fail, and it makes my workflow much smoother since I'm not jumping between apps anymore. The price-to-feature ratio is excellent. Any issues I've had, the developer responds within the hour and usually fixes them the same day. 100% recommend.
