This is where balcony installations most often come unstuck, because the panel is outside and the sockets are inside.
The device connects directly to a fixed socket-outlet using the plug the manufacturer supplied. No extension cables, cable reels, multi-way adaptors, RCD adaptors, travel adaptors or plug convertors — the warning is required on the plug itself. Running a cable through an open window or door is not an acceptable arrangement.
There are two legitimate routes. Either the inverter and the plug are outside, and the socket is a fixed outdoor socket-outlet rated IP55 or better — which is electrical work on the fixed installation, and carries its own certification. Or the DC cable is routed from outside to inside and the inverter sits indoors, in which case the manufacturer must supply the appropriate DC connectors to enable that routing and give clear instructions on the permitted method.
Cables must be installed to reduce the risk of accident — pull relief, bending radii, no burying in the ground, no wet areas — and positioned so they do not create trip hazards on what is often a small balcony.
